The holidays are in full effect, so tell us: What's your favorite holiday song? Bonus points if you share it with us!
This song has been a part of my life since I was old enough to understand the lyrics. Both this movie and the John Denver and the Muppets Christmas album (which also includes the song) have been staples in my family Christmas celebration for as long as I can remember; we watch the movie every year on Christmas Eve (along with Raymond Briggs' The Snowman ) and listen to the album while we decorate the tree. (For a long time we had it on vinyl; now we use a CD.) So this song is not only beautiful; it's also deeply emotionally linked to every stage of my growing up.
What was your favorite class in high school? (And no, lunch doesn't count.)
Well, hey, I haven't answered one of these in a good long time.
My favorite class in high school would have to be Challenge. I loved Challenge because it allowed me to leave class when we weren't doing anything useful, and then I could either choose to be productive or do something stupid and entertaining. Plus, the Limbaugh was awesome.
If you don't want to count that as a class, I'll toss chamber choir in there, but only senior year. Junior year chamber choir was fraught with drama that all stemmed from ONE PERSON, and it was all quite stressful for me because of this. Senior year was awesome because we were good singers and that meant we could pretty much get away with anything; at least, the upperclassmen could. Plus, that was the year I was on the Madrigal court and I taught everyone how to do "Thriller" for the pop concert.
Art class was also pretty fun. OH, LOOK HOW RIGHT-BRAINED I AM.
What's the strangest thing you've ever found in the street?
Last year I was waiting for the campus shuttle and saw a green plastic sign in the gutter that said "We do NOT accept checks." I still have that sign; I put it in a book along with other things that I've found.
(Davy Rothbart, eat your heart out.)
While walking in a winter wonderland can be fun in theory, it makes shopping a big of a drag. Do you plan on doing your holiday shopping online or in-stores this season? Why?

A bit of both. I have certain gifts in mind that I can only get online, so I'm doing that shopping online, duh. Other gifts I have in mind I plan to make, so I suppose to some extent I'll be shopping for those, or at least the materials for them. And then, for the people whose gifts I'm not sure about yet, I'll probably be shopping in Seattle.
Well, that was easy.
How do you entertain yourself when you’re bored at work?

Well, considering I work in food service and there really isn't much to do on down time except restock the shelves, I sing to myself a lot.
Strangely, if I sing at Block & Barrel, Debbie will tell me to turn it down, but if I sing at Chik-fil-A, Vicki and Dave tell me to turn it up. Go figure.
If you were born the opposite sex, what would your name be?
I actually know this one...if I had been a boy, my parents would have named me Eric. The same would have gone for Janna, although obviously if we had both been boys, one of us would not have been named Eric.
What is the scariest experience you've had with Mother Nature?
Submitted by jacolily.
That would be last week, right before KDI, when there was a thunderstorm and lightning struck so close to our house that a lightbulb blew out over the stairs, our TV broke and it sounded like the world had exploded right outside of my bedroom window.
What does it mean to you to be patriotic?
I think a pin that I bought a few days ago sums it up quite nicely:
"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."
What project are you working on right now that's not work related?
My problem with largely unscheduled time is that I'm usually in the middle of several projects at once which, consequently, never get done.
The two most pressing projects at the moment are:
1) A series of portraits featuring the five KDI teachers, only one of which is finished, and all of which I need to get matted and shrink-wrapped by the end of July.
2) A Gothic-Victorian style dress to be used this Halloween, which I haven't even started yet, unless you count buying the pattern.
Other side projects include my website, which is in the process of being moved, a stuffed Fiery doll that still needs feet, and a photomosaic that has been pretty well abandoned for the time being. And you can just forget keeping my room clean.
Speaking of which, however, I have decided that my dorm room needs a little bit more character. Last year I spent one semester with custody over only half a room and the other semester trying to spread half a room's worth of decorations over a whole room, which led to a fairly bleak appearance. The changes I am planning to make:
1) A larger rug. I have this already - a rainbow-striped shag remnant - but, as it was salvaged rather than bought, it needs cleaning.
2) Some neat flower-shaped lights I found at IKEA (one of the few things I could afford there and actually take home on a plane)
3) A bed throw made from some lime-green furry knit I've been eyeing at Hancock's. A yard should do the trick.
4) And, I really need some sort of comfy chair. My desk chair is definitely the opposite of comfy, and I need someplace to lounge besides my bed. I'm looking for a bean bag or a butterfly chair or something of that sort.
