A boy lives inside a world of his own

Where nameless faces thrive

He blends into the wall behind him

And writes to keep himself alive

Doesn’t know who’s lying but it must be so

When nothing around him seems real,

He speaks and I listen, though he doesn’t know it

Sometimes he knows just how I feel.

Dandelion sprouts from a crack in the wall

Nobody seems to notice him there at all

They don’t look around and they don’t tear him down;

They just wait till he’s ready to fall.

A boy lives inside the silence of night

And the light of a movie screen

Fifteen minutes of fame, somehow he’s not ashamed.

Does his best to say just what he means.

He knows something’s wrong inside of his head

But can’t find the reason why

Tells himself there’s nothing

That should trigger him to cry.

Dandelion sprouts from a crack in the wall

He’s pretty damn quiet and seems kind of small

He gets along fine with his books and his mind,

But sooner or later he’ll fall.

I never know who he’s talking to,

Though we usually agree;

With my own thoughts in better words

If only he’d write his way over to me…

A boy has a dream that he can’t quite believe

Till he ends up alone for a while

Supported again by the friends that remain

And finally get him to smile.

The year’s at an end, he no longer pretends

And though he’s still not really sure

He’ll still be okay when his friends go away

Because now he’s okay to make more.

Dandelion grows from the crack in the wall

He’s somehow made it to another fall

A lifetime of fame, though we don’t know his real name…
